Summary:984,401. Rotary filters. SWIMQUIP Inc. April 16, 1963 [Dec. 26, 1962], No. 14800/63. Heading B1D. A filter structure comprises a tank, a filter element mounted for rotation within the tank, a tank inlet and outlet, the outlet being in communication with the interior of the filter element, the filter element comprising a turbine runner in the path of movement of fluid through the tank for imparting rotation to the filter element. As shown, filter elements 17 are mounted rotationally on tube 18 in tank 10. Inlet 19 and outlet 20 co-operate with fittings giving access to the interior of the tank and tube 18 respectively. Water entering at 19 passes through a diatomaceous earth coating (not shown) on elements 17 to collection tube 18 and outlet 20. For backwashing the flow is reversed, but a waste conduit 46 is then opened. A runner 47 is instrumental in causing rotation of tube 18. The elements 17 are shown in detail in Figs. 2 and 3 and include a moulded core 50 and a fabric septum 51 supported by the core.
