Summary:1,002,555. Tundishes. REYNOLDS METALS CO. Oct. 26, 1961 [Dec. 1, 1960], No.38404/61. Heading F4B. [Also in Division B3] A molten metal distribution pan or trough comprises a metal member forming a container for the metal and lined with heat insulating material to be contacted by the molten metal, means for absorbing heat from the metal member and means for directing away from the metal member the heat of the molten metal distributed to the casting unit. The steel shell 16, lined with a porous heat-insulating material 20 faced with a layer of metalimpervious material is supported in a second metal cupshaped shell 22 which is also lined with heat-insulating material 31 and has an outer highly-reflective surface 32. Coolant tubes 36 are fixed between the two shells. Into outlets 34 may be secured valved down spouts. In a modification, Fig. 5, the two shells 161, 221 form between them a closed space 41 through which coolant is passed.
