Summary:938,865. Photographic processes and products using dye developers. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. Aug. 21, 1961 [Aug. 22, 1960], No. 30108/61. Class 98 (2). Onium compounds considered as quaternary ammonium compounds with four valencies occupied by organic radicals, and also sulphonium, phosphonium, pyridinium and such like compounds are used in processing solutions for multilayer dye developer image diffusion transfer procedure, or may be present in a sensitive element therefor which is provided also with a processing solution container and image-receiving element, to inhibit transfer of dye developers from exposed areas, as by salt formation, and thus improve the highlights. Example 1 describes a ten layer element and transfer-processing of it using 1-ethylpyridinium bromide in alkaline developer, and 17 further examples describe further developing mixings using this or other onium compounds, the last ten of them being for use with an element prepared from dye developers in water-immiscible solvents. Numerous other onium compounds are listed. Specifications 684,591, 684,592, 802,175, 804,971, 804,972, 804,976, 853,478, 853,479, 938,863, U.S.A. Specifications 2,271,622, 2,271,623, 2,275,727 and 2,648,604 are referred to.
