Summary:917,731. Mixing by compression. RESEARCH CORPORATION. Feb. 13, 1959 [Feb. 24, 1958; Dec. 15, 1958], No. 5156/59. Class 86. [Also in Groups V and XXVI] A mixing-machine comprises solely a plain circular member 32 concentrically inside and spaced from a plain-interiored hollow body 16 having an axial orifice 20 and means to rotate either the member 32 (Fig. 1) or the body 16 (Fig. 2). The rotation is said to cause the material to be mixed and extruded from the orifice. The element 32 and the body 16 may be heated and the body may have a cooling passage 134c. The machine may be frusto- -conically shaped, the member 132 may have an extension 120 in the orifice to discharge the mixture as a tube and a passage 104 is provided through which other material may be passed for mixing with the material from the orifice 20. The machine may be used for mixing bread, dough, polymers, resins with plasticizers, for controlling the molecular weight of resins, for the chemical cross-linking of polymers and for the grafting of one resin to another.
