Summary:An antioxidant composition for addition to a high-temperature lubricant comprises a diaromatic secondary amine, and a compound containing the phenosilazine structure <FORM:0948633/C3/1> in which, preferably, the free nitrogen valency is attached to hydrogen or an alkyl group containing up to 7 carbon atoms and the free silicon valencies are attached to aryl groups. The preferred silicon compound is <FORM:0948633/C3/2> Suitable lubricants include esters of neopentyl glycol, 2 - butyl - 2 - ethyl - 1,3 - propanediol, 2,2,4 - trimethyl-1,3 - pentanediol, trimethylol-propane, trimethylolethane, and pentaerythritol with alkanoic acids. The amine component of the composition may be phenyl-a -naphthylamine, phenyl - b - naphthylamine, or p,p1-dioctyldiphenylamine.
