Summary:466,774. Vulcanizing tyres. WELCH, W.H. Nov. 5, 1935, No. 30592. [Class 70] [Also in Group XI] An apparatus for retreading tyres comprises a rotatable rim or wheel-like support for the tyre carcase, a mould for the new tread and means spaced away from the mould to supply heat thereto. The means may be electric heating elements, steam-heated elements or gas jets' or the mould may constitute the shortcircuited winding of a transformer. In one form of apparatus, an electric motor 19 rotates a wheel 12 carrying the tyre carcase 13, inflated by tube 14, and carrying a tread mixture 16 and thin sheet metal moulds 15. Vanes 22 circulate air around the inner periphery of the wheel. Heat is supplied by electric heating elements 18. In a modification, reflectors are associated with the elements. When steamheated elements are employed, a steam jet may play on to the vanes to rotate the wheel. The mould may comprise two or more sections of thin sheet with clamped flanges or a linked chain of die cast sections.
