Summary:Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. Some aspects more specifically relate to selectively discarding a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) state in association with a HARQ state retention timer or downlink control information (DCI) misdetection information. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may discard a HARQ state in association with an expiration of the HARQ state retention timer. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may identify DCI misdetection information that indicates a likelihood that the UE did not receive first DCI transmitted by the network node. The UE may discard the HARQ state in association with the likelihood being greater than a threshold. In some aspects, the UE may receive second DCI that includes an NDI, and may transmit a communication in association with selectively discarding the HARQ state and receiving the DCI.
