An updated 3-D representation of the interior of the user's mouth is generated, including the upper teeth and gums and the lower teeth and gums in an open mouth position. A customized mouthpiece is generated, based on the updated 3-D representation of the user's mouth, and the customized mouthpiece is configured to be received in the user's mouth in the open mouth position.
