Summary:Provided are apparatus and method for slicing resources in passive optical network systems. The method includes identifying network elements included in a plurality of physical passive optical networks (pPONs), abstracting the identified network elements so that the identified network elements are recognized as the same software (SW) block, generating a plurality of PON slices by performing PON slicing on the abstracted network elements in accordance with a predetermined reference, and generating a plurality of virtual PONs (vPONs) by mapping the plurality of PON slices to at least one network element. The predetermined reference is determined on the basis of an attribute of at least one of ports and transmission containers (T-CONTs) corresponding to the identified network elements, and the at least one network element includes an optical network unit (ONU).
