Summary:A method for preparing pure hypochlorous acid includes a step of combining a predetermined amount of sodium hypochlorite with a predetermined volume of a nonpolar solvent and a predetermined amount of a weak acid to form a biphasic mixture that includes an aqueous phase and an organic phase. The biphasic mixture is agitated and then the organic phase is separated from the aqueous phase. The nonpolar solvent is removed from the organic phase to obtain the pure hypochlorous acid.
