Summary:Techniques for video scene change detection performed at a server including processor(s) and a non-transitory memory are described herein. In some embodiments, the server obtains a media content item including a plurality of frames. The server further partitions the media content item into shots at local maxima of color deltas between the plurality of frames. The server also groups the shots into a list of candidate scenes based on features derived from key frames representing each of the shots. The server additionally generates a list of scenes using the features based on a required number of scenes and a minimum scene duration.
