Summary: | Fire protection materials comprising an endothermic hydrate, an intumescent, a heat resistant fiber and an elastomeric polymer. In various embodiments, endothermic hydrate comprises aluminum trihydrate, the intumescent comprises expandable graphite, and the heat resistant fiber comprises poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide). The elastomeric polymer may be a polyorganosiloxane, such as a phenyl substituted polydimethyl siloxane. Also described are structures comprising such fire protection materials, e.g., separators and other battery containment structures such as for use with high density lithium batteries. |
