Summary:Disclosed is a method for preventing or treating muscular atrophy or sarcopenia, the method comprising administering a composition comprising 2′-fucosyllactose (2′-FL) as an active ingredient to a subject in need thereof. The composition administered to the subject increases the expression of genes related to mitochondrial function enhancement and mitochondrial biosynthesis, and reduces the expression of atrogin-1 and MuRF1 genes, which are markers for muscular atrophy, thereby providing effects of strengthening muscles and preventing muscular atrophy or sarcopenia.
