Summary:Systems and methods for generating additional content related to a segment of a content item are disclosed. For example, a system receives a manifest of a first content item where the manifest identifies a plurality of segments of the first content item. The manifest comprises additional content associated with a corresponding segment. The system generates for output a first segment of the plurality of segments on a device. The system receives a user selection requesting the presentation of additional content associated with the first segment. In response to receiving the user selection, the system parses the manifest to request data for the additional content associated with the first segment and generates for output the additional content based on the requested data. Subsequent to generating for output the additional content, the system generates for output the next segment on the device.
