Abstract A display device that uses one or more light coupling layers is described herein, along with methods of making such devices. One device includes an array of blue light emitting elements formed on a substrate, a light coupling material formed over the array of blue light emitting elements, and a quantum dot light converting material disposed in a portion of a pixel structure formed over the array of blue light emitting elements. The light coupling material has a high refractive index and may be, or include, a polymer material.
