Summary:A method for producing a modified polyester resin reinforced with carbon fiber, comprising reacting a mixture containing (A) 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic polyester, (B) 5 to 150 parts by weight of a carbon fiber, (C) 0.1 to 2 parts by weight of a coupling agent consisting of a polyfunctional epoxy compound having two or more epoxy groups in a molecule and having a weight-average molecular weight of 2,000 to 10,000, (D) 0.01 to 1 part by weight of a coupling reaction catalyst, and (E) a spreader of 0.01 to 1 part by weight at a temperature equal to or more than a melting point of the thermoplastic polyester to increase a melt viscosity.
