Summary:The present invention relates firstly to a method for controlling and/or configuring a microscope. One step of the method involves generating a virtual reality in which at least synthetic control elements for controlling the microscope and components of the microscope are displayed. In another step, user inputs performed by an operator of the microscope in the virtual reality in relation to the displayed control elements and/or the depicted components of the microscope are detected. According to the invention, the user inputs are used to control and/or configure the microscope. The invention further relates to a control and/or configuration unit for a microscope.
