Summary:The present disclosure relates to a novel surface-modified carbonaceous material with nanoparticles attached to the surface of said material. The carbonaceous material is for example natural or synthetic graphite, and the nanoparticles are for example in the form of plasma polymers generated in a plasma reactor. The present disclosure also relates to processes for preparing said carbonaceous material and to applications for the same, such as an active material for negative electrodes in lithium-ion batteries. It was found that the deposition of the nanoparticles on the surface of the carbonaceous material leads to significant improvements in terms of its flowability and increases the apparent and/or tap density of the resulting material.
