Summary:A method for making a cathode composite material is disclosed. The method comprises: providing a maleimide type material, wherein the maleimide type material is selected from the group consisting of a maleimide type monomer, a polymer formed from the maleimide type monomer, and combinations thereof; mixing the maleimide type material with a cathode active material uniformly to form a mixture; heating the mixture at a temperature of about 200° C. to about 280° C. in a protective gas to obtain the cathode composite material. The cathode composite material, and a lithium ion battery using the same are also disclosed.
