Summary:A method for determining a useful life of a consumable component of a machine is provided. The method includes monitoring for a signal indicative of an identifier code associated with the consumable component and further determining the identifier code from the signal. The method further includes matching the identifier code with a set of pre-stored identifier codes. The method includes generating a first value, indicative of the useful life of the consumable component, if the identifier code matches with one of the pre-stored identifier codes from the set of pre-stored identifier codes, and generating a second value, indicative of the useful life of the consumable component, if the identifier code does not match with any of the pre-stored identifier codes from the set of pre-stored identifier codes, where the second value is lesser than the first value.
