Summary:A conversion kit and conversion method employs an electronic module which is installed to the interior side of a door and interacts with a lockset to provide for an electronically controlled lockset. An electromechanical assembly which connects between the electronic module and the mortise lockset has a clutch. The clutch functions to mechanically allow free egress from the secured side of the door in the event that the latch bolt and the deadbolt are disposed in intermediate positions between the fully retracted unlocked positions and the fully projected locked positions due to power failure or other conditions.
