Summary:An ophthalmic treatment apparatus and procedure for removing the epithelium of the cornea of the eye and for foreign body removal from the cornea or conjunctiva using sonic and/or ultrasonic energy, includes a brush for removing the epithelium of the cornea and a motor drive for sonically and ultrasonically vibrating the brush. The motor drive can be included as part of a handle connected to a brush head, and can include a generator for producing either sonic or ultrasonic energy within the handle and a transducer in electrical communication with the generator. The brush has a surface adapted to be applied against and substantially parallel to the cornea. The ophthalmic treatment apparatus can be used in combination with an ophthalmic fixating device which serves as a guide to provide a demarcation line or area for epithelial removal by the brush.
