Summary:Systems and methods are provided for transmitting and receiving audio and video data. A method may include receiving, one or more audio packets and one or more video packets and determining that a first audio packet is to be transmitted before a first video packet. Furthermore, the method may include determining, based at least in part on a packet size associated with the first audio packet, a first amount of time to delay decoding of the one or more video packets. The method may further include merging the one or more audio packets and the one or more video packets into a single data stream to be transmitted to a receiving device. The method may also include transmitting, to the receiving device as part of the single data stream, the first audio packet and the first video packet.
