Summary:Methods and systems related to the communication of location-based messages are described. A first user (e.g., sender) leaves a message with a service provider for use at a location, and the message is accessed and transmitted by the service provider to user devices in the vicinity of the location. The first user can specify who receives the message or the message may be broadcast without restrictions. The message can then be presented on a user device of a second user (e.g., recipient) if the message satisfies certain criteria. The criteria may include location history, purchase history, age of the message, subject matter of the message, identity of the originator of the message, date and time, area code, type of user device, or a combination thereof.
