Summary:An approach is provided for filtering and delivering user-defined virtual content to augmented and/or mixed reality mobile applications. The application client processes and/or facilitates a processing of one or more map tiles to determine one or more parameters describing, at least in part, one or more areas bounded by the one or more map tiles, wherein the one or more map tiles are received from at least one provider. The application client then causes, at least in part, a transmission of one or more requests for content to at least one other provider, wherein the one or more requests specify, at least in part, the one or more parameters for transforming the content.
