Summary:A railroad car side bearing including a cage, a cap, a lock out insert configured to be removably connected to the cage, and an elastomer element configured to mate with the lock out insert. The lock out insert includes a key that is dimensioned based on a diameter of an interior channel of the elastomer element. Different lock out inserts with different dimensioned keys for different elastomer elements enable a common cage and a common cap to be used with different elastomer elements with different interior channel dimensions, thus reducing the need to have different cages.
