Summary:The present invention relates to a device and a method for clustering and subsequently distributing a plurality of paramagnetic particles in a small volume liquid in a chamber, said chamber having a first wall and an opposite second wall, said method comprising the steps of a) providing a liquid comprising the plurality of paramagnetic particles, b) subjecting the paramagnetic particles to a first magnetic field by means of a first field generating means having first and second mutually spaced opposite poles and defining a first pole axis extending between the poles, the field generating means being arranged relative to the first wall so that the first pole axis (a1) forms an angle (v1) of less than 60° with the first wall, c) moving the magnetic field in a first moving direction having a movement component in the direction of the first pole axis, or, alternatively, changing the polarity of the magnetic field one or more times, and, d) removing the magnetic field.
