Summary:Systems, methods, and computer media for loading initial maximum transmission unit (MTU) information and determining a destination host PMTU are provided. PMTU is the maximum data unit size that can be transmitted from a source host to a destination host because of a limiting component located somewhere in the path. Initial MTU values are determined from local and network sources, including a central repository, and loaded. A PMTU is then determined for a path between a source host and destination host by selecting an MTU value from the available values. If no MTU values are available for a destination host, a default value is used.
