Summary:A cylinder head for an internal combustion engine comprises a combustion chamber/face, a port opening into the combustion chamber/face and an insert pocket circumferentially disposed about the port and configured to receive a valve seat insert therein. A carbon layer is disposed between the insert pocket and the valve seat insert and is configured to prevent corrosion of the insert pocket caused by exposure to alcohol based fuels such as ethanol.
