Summary:Plant pathogen resistance gene (s) present in rice cultivar CO39 and other plant species is disclosed. The locus is referred to as Pi-CO39(t) and confers resistance to strains of the plant pathogen, Magnaporthe grisea (causal agent of rice blast and other plant diseases), having a corresponding AVR1 CO39 avirulence gene. Also disclosed are methods of using the resistance gene and its encoded products for improving resistance of plants to this pathogen.
