Summary:A method of gas detection includes sending, by a gas sensing device to a data collection device, reports of detected concentrations of a particular gas by an associated gas sensor of the gas sensing device per a predetermined schedule or in response to an unscheduled request by the data collection device. The method may include determining whether a latest detected gas concentration is greater than a predetermined threshold, and if so, automatically sending updated reports of detected gas concentrations to the data collection device at a rate faster than that provided by the predetermined schedule. The method may further include determining whether a tracked rate that the gas concentration is changing indicates a decrease in concentration of the gas at a rate at which there is no safety concern, and if so, clearing an over-threshold alarm. A gas sensing device is also presented.
