Summary: | A method (900, Figure 9) of charging a power source 802 coupled to an electrically operated tool, such as a torque wrench 202, includes sending, by a charger 800, a first signal via a first control line of a USB cable 206 to the tool to actuate a switch of the tool to an ON position. A flow of power via the USB cable to the power source is then allowed when the power source is coupled to the tool. The charger measures a voltage of the power source via the USB cable, then sends, by the charger, a second signal via the first control line to the tool to actuate a switch of the tool to an OFF position when the measured voltage meets a voltage threshold. The method may include implementing, with the charger, a second control line in the USB cable and measuring, by the charger a temperature of the power source via the second control line. The flow of power to the power source ceasing when the measured temperature meets or exceeds a temperature threshold. An output of a thermistor embedded in the power source may be |
