Summary:Disclosure herein is related to a time-based GIS system, a terminal device, and a method for map generation. The GIS system includes at least one GIS server which stores a geographic information database. The database records multiple map files corresponding to multiple time periods. The GIS system includes a lookup table provided for map inquiry. By this lookup table, a user may acquire a time-based map according to the parameters including time, location, and map category submitted by a terminal device. The GIS server will resolve a request signal to obtain the parameters while receiving the request signal sent by the terminal device. The server then transmits the inquiry result to the terminal device while looking up the time-based geographic information database based on the parameters.
