Summary:The present invention provides a liquid crystal alignment agent which is able to form a liquid crystal alignment film indicating an excellent pre-tilt angle with small light irradiation amount and is able to obtain a liquid crystal display device with the rapid response speed of liquid crystal molecules. The liquid crystal alignment agent contains a polymer having a group represented by formula (1). (In the formula, A1 is one among a biphenyl group, a bicyclohexylene group, a naphthylene group and the like. Y is a single bond, -O-, *2 -COO-, *2 -OCO-, -OCOO- and the like. L is one among a single bond, an alkanediyl group of C1-C20. a and b respectively are 0 or 1 and do not satisfy a=b=0. And Z is a group having polymerizable unsaturated bond).
