Summary:A composite article selected from a cutting tool and a cutting tool insert for machining of metals and metallic alloys comprises a first region comprising a first composite material and a second region metallurgically bonded to the first region and comprising a second composite material. The first composite material and the second composite material individually comprise hard particles and a binder and the binder of at least one of the first composite material and the second composite material comprises ruthenium. A concentration of ruthenium in the binder of the first composite material is different from a concentration of ruthenium in the binder of the second composite material.
