PROCESS FOR THE SEPARATION, BY COUNTERCURRENTWISE LIQUID-LIQUID EXTRACTION, OF A GLYOXAL DIACETAL FROM A CRUDE MIXTURE COMPRISING IT

Diacetals of glyoxal (I) are separated from mixtures containing (I) and the corresponding mono-acetal (II) by counter-current liquid-liquid extraction with a solvent which is immiscible in the reaction mixture, to give an upper phase containing (I). A method for separating glyoxal diacetals of formu...

Summary:Diacetals of glyoxal (I) are separated from mixtures containing (I) and the corresponding mono-acetal (II) by counter-current liquid-liquid extraction with a solvent which is immiscible in the reaction mixture, to give an upper phase containing (I). A method for separating glyoxal diacetals of formula (RO) 2CH-CH(OR) 2(I) from a crude mixture containing (I) and a monoacetal of formula (II) involves counter-current liquid/liquid extraction with a solvent which is immiscible with the reaction mixture, to give an upper phase containing (I) and a lower phase containing the other components of the mixture. (RO) 2CH-CHO (II) R : 1-4C alkyl.
