Summary: | The objective of the present invention is to provide organic dye compounds which are useful in optical recording media and have a fluorine-containing anion as the counter ion and excellent solubility. Indolenine-based pentamethine cyanine dyes are represented by the general formula (1) (wherein R1 is a methyl group or an ethyl group; R2 is a linear or branched alkyl group which is different from R1; R3 is H, a halogen group or a lower alkyl group; and X- is an anion comprising F and a metallic element of group 15 of the periodic table), and a light absorber and an optical recording medium contain the cyanine dye. Further, a method of preparing the cyanine dyes comprises reacting a compound having a 3,3-dimethyl-2-(1,3-butadienyl)-3H-benzoindolenium skeleton with a compound having a 2,3,3-trimethyl-3H-benzoindolenium skeleton. |
