A process for producing 3,4-dihydroxybenzonitrile with a high yield, by reacting 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde with hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid at a temperature of, for example, -10 to 30 DEG C and then 40 to 70 DEG C.
