Summary:The present invention relates to a supported catalyst, its production and its use in the synthesis of vinyl acetate in the gas phase from ethylene, acetic acid and oxygen or oxygen-containing gases with simultaneous improvement in the activity and selectivity. The catalyst comprises palladium, at least one alkali metal compound and, if desired, one or more promoters, in particular gold, barium and/or cadmium, on a porous support in which at least one reducible metal oxide, in particular an oxide of the elements of groups IIIb, IVb, Vb, VIb of the Periodic Table of the Elements, is present. In the production of this catalyst, the support is loaded with at least one palladium compound and a reduction at a temperature of >200 DEG C is then carried out.
