Summary:A data encoding method and apparatus in vertical blank interval, for use in digital video encoder. The video encoder has a hue encoder capable of producing a hue pulse signal on the scanning lines. The present invention uses 2T pulse as unit pulse for data in vertical blank interval, so that the corresponding wave of the bit intervals can be expressed as a sine wave or constant based on the relative relation between the current bit and the last bit and generated by the said hue encoder. The 2T pulse is defined mathematically as cos [(t/2T)*], (-T<=t<=T), where T indicates the bit interval of data encoding in the vertical blank interval. Thus, in the scanning lines of data to be encoded in the vertical blank interval, besides the period for production of hue pulse signals, the corresponding waveform of bit intervals can be produced by the hue encoder according to the relative relation between the current and the last bits.
