Summary:A method and apparatus for manufacturing a glass article includes flowing a glass ribbon through a housing having first and second side walls. The glass ribbon has first and second opposing major surfaces extending in a lengthwise and a widthwise direction. Ions are directed from an ionization source toward at least one of the first and second opposing major surfaces of the glass ribbon and/or an electrode directs particles away from at least one of the first and second opposing major surfaces of the glass ribbon. Such can reduce a density of particles on a major surface of the glass article formed from the glass ribbon.
