Summary:A method for extracting cross-sectional contour of fiber is provided, which includes following steps. To read a yarn cross-sectional image which includes a first type cross section and a second type cross section in an image reading step. To select the first type cross section or the second type cross section from a selected signal in a first image pre-processing step. To segment a selected cross section as a region of interest from the yarn cross-sectional image in a second image pre-processing step. Based on the selected signal to calculate a gradient feature, a color feature, and a frequency feature in a feature extraction step. To extract a cross-sectional contour of the region of interest according to those features in a cross-sectional contour extraction step. In addition, a system for extracting cross-sectional contour of fiber is disclosed herein.
