Summary:An object of the invention is to activate a regenerative ion exchange device quickly and with low elution. In an ion exchange device 2A packed with regenerable ion exchangers, a pure water production method of the invention repeatedly alternates between an operating state in which a water to be processed is subjected to processing, and a regeneration and standby state in which supply of the water to be treated is stopped, the ion exchangers 21 and 22 are regenerated, and the device then waits until the next operating state, wherein during the regeneration and standby state, after regeneration of the ion exchangers 21 and 22 has been completed, a wash water is passed through the ion exchangers until the next operating state is activated.
