Summary:An alumina powder of the invention comprises first alumina particles having an average particle diameter of at least 0.1 [mu]m but less than 1 [mu]m, second alumina particles having an average particle diameter of at least 1 [mu]m but less than 10 [mu]m, and third alumina particles having an average particle diameter of at least 10 [mu]m but not more than 100 [mu]m, wherein each of these average particle diameters is measured by a laser diffraction and scattering particle distribution measurement device, the first alumina particles having a projected area circle-equivalent diameter determined by microscopy of at least 0.1 [mu]m but not more than 1 [mu]m have an average sphericity of at least 0.80 but not more than 0.98, and the first alumina particles have a specific surface area of at least 1.9 m2/g but not more than 20.0 m2/g, and an [alpha]-crystalline phase content of a least 80% by mass.
