Provided are a polarizing plate and a polarizing plate with a phase difference layer that are able to minimize wrinkles and bubbles when applied in an image display device in which an end section has a curved shape and an image display region extends all the way to said end section. This polarizing plate includes a polarizing film configured from an iodine-including polyvinyl alcohol resin film, and has an omitted section in at least one corner section thereof, the ratio of the area of said omitted section to the total area being 2.0% or more. This polarizing plate with a phase difference layer has: a polarizing plate that includes a polarizing film configured from an iodine-including polyvinyl alcohol resin film; and a phase difference layer that is an oriented solidified layer of a liquid crystal compound, wherein the polarizing plate with a phase difference layer has an omitted section in at least one corner section thereof, the ratio of the area of said omitted section to the total area being 2.0% or more
