Summary:A display device is disclosed. The display device includes a display panel assembly and a backlight unit positioned behind the display panel assembly, the backlight unit including a light guide plate and a backplane assembly. The backplane assembly comprises a printed circuit board and a plurality of light sources distributed thereon. The backplane assembly may further include a reflector and a support frame. The backplane assembly also includes a plurality of standoffs sized to provide a small, predetermined gap between the light sources and the light guide plate. An adhesive disposed in the gap couples the light sources to a surface of the light guide plate.
