A monitor assistant illumination apparatus includes a lamp frame, a first light source, a second light source, a switch, a first light sensor and a second light sensor. The lamp frame has a support shaft and a lamp cover disposed on the support shaft. The first light source is disposed on a first surface of the lamp cover for emitting light in a first exit direction. The second light source is disposed on a second surface of the lamp cover for emitting light in a second exit direction different from the first exit direction. The switch is disposed on the lamp frame for switching between the first and second light sources. The first light sensor is disposed on the lamp cover for detecting a luminance value of a background light emitted from the rear of the monitor. The second light sensor is disposed on the lamp cover for detecting an illuminance value of ambient light source.
