Summary: | The objective of the present invention is to provide a carbonaceous material (carbonaceous material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery) that is used in the negative electrode of a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery (e.g. a lithium ion secondary battery), said carbonaceous material exhibiting good charge/discharge capacity and low resistance and having good resistance to oxidative degradation. The present invention relates to a carbonaceous material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, wherein the average interplanar spacing d002 of the (002) plane as calculated using Bragg's equation according to wide-angle X-ray diffraction is in the range of 0.36-0.42 nm, the specific surface area as determined by a nitrogen adsorption BET3 point method is in the range of 20-65 m2/g, the nitrogen element content is 0.3 mass% or less and the oxygen element content is 2.5 mass% or less, and the average particle size according to a laser scattering method is 1-4 [mu]m. |
