Summary:A method for manufacturing keys is provided. The method includes the steps of: injection molding a keymat including a plurality of transparent key substrates, each key substrate has a top surface and an opposite bottom surface; forming a transparent primary paint layer on the bottom surface; forming a metal layer which is opaque on the primary paint layer; forming a semitransparent color layer on the metal layer, the color layer having a desired color; forming a transparent protecting layer on the color layer; cutting the key substrates having the above-mentioned layers from the keymat to obtain a plurality of keys; assembling the plurality of keys with other elements to form a keypad; etching the metal layer of each keys using laser passing through the transparent key substrate and the primary paint layer, thereby forming through holes in the metal layer to form characters on the keys. A key made by the present method is also proved.
