Summary:An image sensor (100) comprises: a lens body (4) that focuses light that is radiated toward and then reflected by an object to be read; a sensor (6) that receives the light focused by the lens body (4); a sensor substrate (7) on which the sensor (6) is placed; a substrate holding plate (9) that holds the sensor substrate (7), has a casing attachment surface (9a) that extends in the x-direction, and has a sensor substrate attachment reference surface (9b) that is formed upon a side surface of the casing attachment surface (9a) and touches the +y side of the sensor substrate (7); and a first casing (1) that affixes or holds the substrate holding plate (9) by means of the casing attachment surface (9a) being fastened.
